# In order to be able to access CompuServe mail with a POP3 internet mail
program, it is necessary to set up a separate "mail only" password which cannot
be the same as your main account access password. This is done on CompuServe by
using the command GO NPX92 The mail password must be between 8 and 24
characters, can only include letters and numbers (no symbols) and the
combination selected must include at least one letter and one number.
If you wish to have an email address other than your numerical ID, this is set up at GO REGISTER.
Notes:
1) The scripts in the linked files are used with the port setting 8-N-1 and
should
work with both mobile phones and landline modems in conjunction with any direct
CompuServe node worldwide or UUD access number. If you have "Display window" enabled in Internet
settings, you may notice some characters are garbled. This is normal with the
8-bit setting and the script allows for this. It has been suggested that with
UUD, connections are more reliable if Display Window is enabled, though I don't
know of any logical reason for this.
2) If you need to access using the Equant supplementary network a separate script is required and I can let you have a copy of this.
3) The script is critical to getting a connection and ideally it should be copied and pasted into the script box rather than trying to type it. To paste it, you must use <Ctrl-V> from the keyboard - the silkscreen button and paste command will not work in this particular case.
